AVOCADO TREE PLANTING PROJECT FOR SMALL SCALE FARMERS

WIENU - in a bid to combat climate change challenges, we launched the Avocado tree planting Project to Small scale Farmers in Mbarara City and the entire country, this is directed to increase the incomes of informal workers in the informal Economy a contribution to the country's GDP.

IFWEA study circles

The International Federation of Workers’ Education Associations (IFWEA) Study Circles Program for 2026 is a participatory learning initiative designed to strengthen the knowledge, skills, and collective voice of workers especially those in the informal economy. The program uses small, peer-led group discussions (“study circles”) to explore key issues such as workers’ rights, social justice, climate resilience, gender equality, and sustainable livelihoods.

Social protection scheme/Policy

Informal sector workers in Uganda face several challenges including inadequate access to infrastructure, services finance, lack social security and job security. Workers in Informal Economy Network Uganda lunched a social protection policy during the street net regional focal point meeting for east and southern Africa held in Kampala.

Mentorship and Hands-on Skilling of Youth and Women in the informal economy in Uganda

Youth and women form the largest portion of Uganda’s population, yet many remain unemployed or underemployed due to limited access to practical skills and mentorship opportunities. This gap contributes to poverty, dependency, and vulnerability, especially in informal economies. Addressing these challenges requires equipping them with relevant vocational and entrepreneurial skills while linking them to mentors who can guide, inspire, and support their growth.
